Much of what we love centers around supporting kids, promoting health and feeding people (food is love!). Check out a couple of the organizations we love for the work they do.
Atlanta Community Food Bank
The mission of the Atlanta Community Food Bank is to fight hunger by engaging, educating and empowering our community. While our core work is food distribution, our efforts extend far beyond that. Our mission is lived out every day through seven projects that help engage, educate and empower both people in need and those who want to help. From supporting community gardens to assisting people in finding economic security, the Food Bank covers a wide range of opportunities for people to learn and get involved.
The American Diabetes Association
The American Diabetes Association plays a large role in the Chestnut family as a partner with The LisaP Angels Foundation. The LisaP Angels Foundation was conceptualized in 2010 after the loss of our beloved Valicia Patrice Chestnut to Diabetes on November 2, 2009. We felt the name of the organization was appropriate as we had always adorned Valicia with the nickname: Lisa P. The LisaP Angels organization is dedicated to raising community awareness and funds for the research in the development of a cure for diabetes. Each year the Foundation hosts a charity 5K to raise funds for the ADA. This is our way of honoring LisaP’s life and preserving her legacy of always trying to make a positive difference in her community.
Bright Beginnings
Bright Beginnings seeks to restore and revitalize the quality of life for every child and family experiencing homelessness in Washington, D.C. The children we serve enter kindergarten ready to learn and succeed, and our program serves as a model for other communities in need. Bright Beginnings is dedicated to meeting the immediate needs of children and families experiencing homelessness by:
Providing children with a safe, nurturing educational environment
Preparing children to enter kindergarten ready to learn; and
Supporting parents in stabilizing their home lives and becoming self-sufficient.
