A Note From the couple
Theresa Viera & Sangeet Jasani
Thank you for thinking of others as we celebrate our love story!
The A21 campaign pursues the goal of ending modern-day slavery worldwide. Such projects include the support of local taskforces combatting human trafficking around the United States, including the Charlotte-based taskforce through which Theresa and her legal team provide pro bono legal representation to human trafficking survivors.
Playing for Others is a teen leadership program that encourages self reflection by asking “Who am I?” and “What can I give of that?” The program combines personal development, community service, and the arts to foster future leaders that are confident, compassionate and creative. Theresa has been serving on the board for over five years, and is always excited to invite anyone to a PFO event.
Pat’s Place is Charlotte’s Child Advocacy Center. All too often, children with the courage to talk about the abuse they had experienced were expected to undergo repeated questioning about the most traumatic event in their lives at various places. Pat’s Place was established to ensure that all the services a child and family needs (medical examinations, forensic interviewing, advocacy support) could occur in one location – a safe, nurturing, child-friendly environment, at no cost to a child’s family. Pat’s Place, Safe Alliance and other community partners have combined efforts to create the Umbrella Center – Charlotte’s first Family Justice Center – a victim-centered, trauma-informed model in which multiple domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse, human trafficking and child abuse partners can work together to address the needs of victims and survivors in our community.
At the end of the day, everything comes back to “family.” When we help the families around us, we create a more loving and safe community for our family.
