Getting to Know Celebrate RVA!

Celebrate RVA is a wonderful organization based in Richmond, Virginia. We recently had the honor of connecting with them and hearing more about their inspiring work! Celebrate RVA on The Good Beginning Celebrate RVA was founded out of the raw desire to celebrate childrens lives and for them to know how loved and cherished they are by our community. I was 16, a junior in high school, when I asked a child how old he was and when is birthday was. His response? “I think I was born when it was cold outside”. That struck a chord with me – this child had no idea the significance of his birthday and that it should be a special day. I set out to celebrate as many birthdays as I could and have since celebrated over 1500 children.

Celebrate RVA on The Good BeginningWhat inspires you to give back?

The kids. Their smiles, their giggles, and their wishes when they blow out their birthday candles. Knowing that for just an hour or two, they got the chance to be children again and not worry about where the next meal is coming from or where they are sleeping that night – they got to get balloon animals and eat cake. They have every reason to be angry and to be sad – but instead, they choose to embrace the joy.

What is your favorite part of planning birthday parties for children in need?

The simplicity of it, really. Every birthday party is simple. Sure, they’re chaotic and have tons going on, but what kids party doesn’t? When you get down to it, the only thing that matters is the love that is felt that day. Getting to see that magic unfold first hand is a real blessing.

Do you have any encouragement for engaged couples who want to give back through their wedding?

First off, thank you for taking the time to consider such a generous offering. Whether it be to Celebrate RVA or any other charity, I think I speak for all of us when I say that your donation – no matter how big or small – will make a huge impact. We have local children who ask for birthday supplies instead of gifts, so that they can share their birthday by providing us with the things we need to give an underprivileged child a celebration. Every time I collect one of those donations, my heart overflows because someone has chosen to take a happy time in their life, and share that with someone else who is in need of that joy…and that is a beautiful thing to be a witness to. So please, take the time to comb through this site and decide as a couple how you want to start your marriage. I wish you a lifetime of happiness and joy and hope that you will choose to share that with everyone around you. Celebrate RVA on The Good Beginning
